Suikoden I & II HD Remaster will be released tomorrow. I will review it soon, but I want to post some quick thoughts about the new translation.

For the initial games, the size of the dialog box is quite small and there is not much that we can suit it, “said producer Yasuo Daikai in 2022.

I could not check all or even most dialogues, instead sometimes stop to compare the remaster versions with the scenes of PlayStation Originals. But most of the lines I have compared are different. It is a good translation, but something sometimes sacrifices the idyllic character for what feels like comfort. Considering how difficult these games when owning legal ownership, my ideal package will be a game that preserves originals in some forms.

Sometimes, ordering becomes a vulgar way in ways that feel sensitive and skillful. “Prepare yourself a surprise” from Suiken 1 now is “you may want to sit down for this”. Sometimes, poetry becomes more popular. “It’s not that I see our reunion in the stars,” Leknaat told Hung in the original. “Not based on reading astrology,” she said now. “Odessa’s small newborn hope must be kept” now “that small fire of hope must be kept alive.”

Other changes are more subjective, depending on the silly level of Suikoden, but it seems clearly clear examples of extra space used. Instead of the hero who had an option to tell Emperor Barbarossa “I don’t want”, now he can say “It’s not like I can help it”.

I only play a little Suikoden 2 at the time of writing, but every line I compare in the introduction is a bit different. Once again, these people attacked me as a translator using the extra space that Daikai mentioned to create more accurate lines. “I too. I thought about returning to Kyaro and I couldn’t wait to get rid of the uniform” now “I, really. There is no way I can stay in that uniform when we know we are home Kyaro.” “I wish I had participated in the ambush. All I had to fight recently was the old man. I was rusting” now “I wished I had participated in the ambush. All I had to fight recently that stupid old man. I am coming out of practice.”

Because the embargo assessment has ended, I can tell you that I have a lovely time to review two valuable games for me beyond words (this is awkward because I have to write about them). There are also many conservation support features: music, cutscene and cinema gallery with conceptual art platform. No lack of love or care here. The new portrait of the character designer Sukoden I Junko Kawano is a real, special treatment. But – Talking completely in terms of conservation – there was something irreplaceable about a fourteen -year -old who answered the Emperor’s request to “I don’t want” and I really like to see a original translation menu.

(Yes – the dragons still sound like elephants.)
