RPS Advent Calendar 2024, December 24

It was a rainy day when she walked into my office, heavy rain, like Stray Stones from a truck on the highway hit the lid of your car. I lighted my cyber cigarettes and set foot on the table, I don’t know why, I think it will make me look indifferent to this strange woman. She is not impressed. “Detective,” she said, staring at me with eyes like beautiful tennis balls, “I want to open the adventure calendar today.” I was confused. “Whaddya wants to do it, Missy?” She sat down, relaxed and pulled out a gun out of her wallet. “I need to put a body into it.”

That is the procedure created the mysterious killer Sim Shadows of doubt!

Brendy: I laughed a lot when playing this role -playing detective sim, witnessed the release of 1.0 this year. You play like a wandering Gumshoe responsible for resolving crimes in a greasy cyber city city is often affected by rain, fog and snow. On the paper, this means going to a murdering scene, collecting bullets, taking a fingerprint sampling and pocketing suspicious notes, then neatly asking for colleagues to be known until you discover a suspect that suits all your evidence. After knowing, you can arrest them yourself, or just call the local police and do it for you. All in a working day.

Except for that it never happened. Most likely you will find yourself sweeping all mailboxes on the corridor for hundreds of fingerprints, or dodging bullets from security turrets in an insurance company office after breakthrough, or freezing half to death in the vents of a high -rise and complex apartment building after trying (and failure). Shadows of suspect is not a dream about the power of becoming a crack detective, which is a role of playing role -playing, where you regularly learn how to become a detective a bit less than the present.

A large sales point of sims is that its cities and people are randomly created, and murders will happen intelligently and systematically, one by one. Anyone can be the next murderer, and they all have their own identity and detailed schedule. They go to work, go to the bar, go to the restaurant. Each person on the road has eye color, shoe size, some of their bank accounts (positive or negative). You can resolve a crime in a day, while others will take you too much time, the criminal will be killed again.

Players use computers to access the email of the murder victim.

This makes it a massive ambitious game about its design, and it does not always feel organic as it can. Each NPC interaction has the same question and repetitive answer, and the samples in each murder means they can also repeat the way to break the illusion a bit. But even with those issues (and many errors), it still tries to make me laugh, and provide enough diverse for many mistakes and joyful revelation. The moment you find that important document, or discover that the hundred and first fingerprints are suitable for the murder weapon that is when all combined and you excitedly muttered under your breath: “Gotcha!”

Graham: I have resolved a few valuable cases in the darkness, but it was almost important. The killer to catch or not, it is fun to investigate its densely population, to map all data about their lives and pin it into my dashboard as a conspiracy theoretical theoretical theory. Somewhere to work, where they live, they are dating the people they eat at, all focused by hacking computers and breaking into businesses. It is the joy when Poring through the history of the fortress, or Adam Jensen and read the email of others when you bow behind their desk. They may not be a murderer or crook, but they may be one day – or I told myself, when I discovered an office worker who left the building and decided to follow a new person.
