Creativity is an action of kindness. A person dipped out a piece of their own, shaped it, wrapped it and sent it to the world in the hope that it could mean to others. Others do this for us at all times and mostly we don’t even pay attention. The work is not visible and not noticed even when, through repetition, we depend on it. Until one day, the light they illuminated could not see. You may have left home, or maybe they did, but now it’s your turn to take such kind actions. To bring the tradition forward to others – and for yourself.
You, it’s time to play SKEAL.
Playing SKeal at Christmas is an annual RPS tradition, created by Alice O and written by her in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Alice left RPS in April, so I continued to replace.
SKEAL is a short, free joke created by Nick Cummings that you can play in your browser. You will take five minutes. Go to work now.
Ah, it’s fun, right. A bit of a silly puns blows up and out in a way that makes joy stack and people. Each year I forget its details, and every year I smiled for the first time I missed a gate and the “pain” counter appeared on the top left.
We play SKeal every year and invite you to do it as a small mark in the ending season. I played every year, but in many ways, the tradition began for me for a long time before I really came to itching to find the game. It started in early December when I first recalled the tradition and started singing around my kitchen. Self thinking about SKeal has become a reminder reflecting where I am and I am. Place briefly? RPS, you are still my strength, my joy, my pain.
The nature of traditions is that we can choose that we continue and we do not. Alice O also played Dracula Cha and Christmas in the town of Christmas every month – a good tradition! – But I let them go, at least this year.
Of course, we can also create our own new traditions, if we want. Who knows what Nic, Edwin, James and ED can cook in the next months and years? That is for them to decide. For me, now, I’m awake.
