Developing games can cause stress, I’m sure you have heard. The director of the series of Tekken fighting games yesterday shared an anecdote about that wild level that could be received. Talking about the release of Tekken 4 in 2001, director Katsuhiro Harada remembered that it did not perform well as previous games. And the relatively weak reception of the game (besides the lack of support in Bandai Namco) has made his body a whirlpool of poor health from anxiety.
“I was stressed a lot at the time when I developed a mysterious condition in which all the hair on the right of my body fell – right on the right,” the director in a post on Xitter. “Even my hair, my eyebrows and eyelashes disappear.”
If it sounds abnormal when hair loss may only affect one side of the body, it is really not strange when baldness occurs on one side. Conditions such as areata hair can be activated from stress and cause hair loss from eyebrows, eyelashes and facial hair. Basically, it is a reaction of the immune system – your body feels threatened and into an overload, attack and inflammation even of its own hair follicles. Of course, I don’t know if this is what is happening to Harada’s body at that time – I’m at school, ignoring math teacher. But the developer is convinced that work pressure is certainly causing problems.
“In fact, there was a period of time – only in about a year before the development on Tekken 5 began – when I left Namco due to stress and shock.
The developer has made comments after a random follower praised Tekken 4 as “the most accurate and mature Tekken ever released”. The praise that Harada noted only provided with late awareness.
“But back then, I was completely bombarded with criticism,” he said. “I don’t have an ally. Not one. It’s a famous story in the company.
“Now, in this day and age, critics forget their complaints, and only those who want to praise the game still. That’s the only reason that is treated as a masterpiece. For me, good or bad, this title is still a continuous reminder and lesson for myself.”
Many years later, we are currently sitting very well on Tekken 8 and Harada is still the director of the series. Did you know that he had tried to convince KFC to let him put Colonel Sanders into a fighting game? Anyway, the latest item is quite good according to our Tekken 8 review, even though I’m still waiting for my favorite characters to join the party. Most recently, we have seen Anna Williams appear, along with the client character from Clive from Final Fantasy XVI. Whenever Lei Wulong was left on the bench, I cried a tear.
