The creator of Katamari Damacy talked to leave Bandai Namco, and the person he made the game for: "I will do it in the next life"

Keita Takahashi is probably one of the most recognizable names in the game, in the small part thanks to a game without introduction, Katamari Damacy. That game was taken in Namco, before it became a Bandai Namco that we know today, and Takahashi actually left the studio in 2006 around the time they merged, and in a recent interview with GameSpark (as translated by Automaton), the developer shared the reason behind his departure.

“I leave the company because I don’t want to be limited to working with people there,” Takahashi was quite clear. “I wonder why I only make games with Japanese people. I think that if I can develop games with many people from other countries, I will be able to get ideas from different views. I am currently developing games with a series of people from around the world.”

Takahashi is currently working with a t at his Uvula studio, a rather lovely game, seems to explore disability and small difficulties coming in everyday life in his usual, odd way. Despite working with a global team more than these days, he admitted that he did not know how “school culture in the US, so I have no choice but to use Japanese elements” in T.

He still thinks there will be something for everyone in the game, because the main character does not want to go to school because they are bullied, and Takahashi thinks “this is what happens around the world, not only in Japan. I am really bullied, and never feel like going to school.”

I really like Takahashi’s work very much, Katamari is a game I introduce to anyone, and Wattam is also a joy, strange and all. Whether I am the target audience or not does not seem to be important to Takahashi as he said, “I make the games that I feel satisfied, so I want everyone to play them if they want. Pretty happy because he is making games in this game himself.

At one T expected to release May 28.
