RPS Advent Calendar 2024, December 24

The door today is sparkling and promises dark spells inside. It was a could not be of a large budget publisher and a favorite genre by smaller development groups. Which level of ownership will unlock the door and expose the large arenas inside? Why, click to read more, of course.

It is Ubisoft Metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown!

Graham: Indie developers have led the revival of Metroidvanias in recent years, creating games like Hollow Knight can challenge even the name of this genre. As a large publisher, Ubisoft brings a budget that smaller groups cannot compete, leading to the 3D world instead of 2D, scene cuts, full voice acting, and many bells and horns.

Are these things important? Not even light. Ubisoft undertaking this genre is not great because of their budget surplus, but because they understand the basic principles. Crown’s world map of Sidescrolling is very large and has many buttons, your reward is expanding the reward, and it offers a combat supply and big platform challenges to overcome.

This is a prince game of Persian where you don’t play like a prince. Instead, you are Sargon, the youngest member of the Crown guard, in a rescue task. The prince was kidnapped and taken to a mysterious palace, where physical magic, time was deformed and twisted the environment.

What does that mean? Well, that means there are skellingtons with an attack model that you have to learn so you can block, access and defeat them in the sword. That means there are challenging rooms that are played with switches and spines and blades. That means there are bosses to defeat and strength to collect gradually, allowing you to shoot arrows, time bubbles, carry out walls and double jump.

This is not a film platform like the Persian prince, but all of these factors make it feel like a modern reproduction of many similar ideas. But whether you are a long -term fan or a completely new person, it is important to how the Lost Crown feels in your hand. By the end of the game, you will scratch the slides, dance, block, arrow attacks to manipulate the environment and overcome difficult bosses and feel great to do it.

All of that makes it the type of game that I wish for big publishers would do more. Not because I want to have many scenes and acting in voice, but because I want to have many games to know themselves and feel very good to play.

Jeremy: I have many feelings about how the Persian Prince managed Ubisoft: The Lost Crown. This is a game of confusion and unfair reception from Getgo, because the fans are waiting for the remake of Sands of Time is still developing thinking that they are sitting outside. When The Lost Crown was released, it received good reviews, including a RPS word, but it also appeared between a Kerfuffle PR, where a Ubisoft director said that consumers should get used to not owning their games. Finally, it was limited to the Ubisoft Connect store instead of Steam, and then sitting for a few months later when the Persian prince Rogue was announced.

Considering all of this, when Ubisoft claimed that the Lost Crown group was lifted due to poor sales, I was crazy and wrote something in Slack about sending a really good product to die. Because the crown is lost better. Its delicate Metroidvania map made me busy for months, to difficult bosses in a difficult way, obviously from the group like the soul, to a song that uses real Iranian instruments II, he is not the one who turns back in time in 2003, but he is completely and completely worthy of the descendant of Prince Persian.

The world deserves many games like this – more revival of a series like this. Pop lives with Persian Prince Rogue, which is great in its true sense, but I will forever be mentally out of mental that the crown is lost seems to, for all intentions and goals, one and one. If you miss it for the first time, you have no reason not to try it on Steam for yourself and dream about a better world, where we will receive at least two sequences with the participation of Sargon.
