Yes, there you have it folks. After many months of uncertainty about the stock price decreased, the delay of the game and the argument with investors, Ubisoft opened a new subsidiary to take care of their best -selling Assassin Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry Games, with a reduction worth 1.16 billion Euro.
Ubisoft’s Board of Directors has publicly considered a large transaction since January, with Tencent and the company’s founding guillemot brothers can participate in Cahoots. The agreement announced today is basically about overcoming the parts of Ubisoft’s business activities, making the most money, with Tencent’s money on those bits rather than another series, less prosperous like Ghost Recon and Prince of Persia. The subsidiary will act as the main business unit for all assassin creed, Rainbow Six and Far Cry based in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona and Sofia.
The press release announced that the new subsidiary said that Tencent’s investment would “strengthen Ubisoft’s balance sheet by significantly reducing their consolidated net debt position”, which the developer struggled after a series of flops like Xdefiant and Skull and Bones.
But how will the relationship between Ubisoft and this new Spin-off entity work? According to the release, the subsidiary will have a “specialized and autonomous leadership”, but it will still report to the CEO of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot, which makes everything faint. The release is equally vague about how all this can affect the direction of Assassin Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six in the future. It claims that the new subsidiary will “promote further increase in the quality of the exclusive experience, expand the services more players with the frequency of content release, introduce free contact points and integrate more social features.”
For the parts of Ubisoft is not part of the subsidiary, having a conversation about “accelerating the development of top -active games and taking advantage of breakthrough technologies on newly selected IPs, and continuing to provide modern manufacturing games and online services.” Again, all are very open for this time.
Only time will know all this will be rewarded for Ubisoft and Tencent, but at least Assassin Creed, Assassin Creed, has become a big push since it debuted last week, attracting more than three million players. I imagine that between that and Tencent agreement, Ubisoft management will sleep a bit more easily tonight.
