The Berserker First: Khazan Review

When Lords of the Fallen debuted in 2014, it was interesting to see another developer dare to imitate the Souls formula of the software. But now, it is a whole genre, seeing another big budget no longer feels special – even Star Wars has a crack. So the first Berserker: What is Khazan bringing the table? What has just changed or set a novel that makes this soul stand out? To be honest, I can’t see one. If I am as shortened as possible, I will say that it only needs some core ideas from Nioh and Skiro’s slapping Parry upwards.

Some of you can read that and think that this anime eye role -playing game sounds derivative. Others may drool with joy. Yes, both reactions are meaningful. Absolutely nothing original about the first Berserker: Khazan. It could also be the most fun that I have played a soul for many years.

You are General Khazan, a veteran who was once appreciated, who was framed for a cowardly emperor. After the tendons in your arms are cut off, you reluctantly create a treaty with an adult called Blade Phantom, who gives you the strength to deceive death. From here, you start a mission to punish people who frame you and restore your name.

Yes, it is almost not Macbeth. The story is one of the weakest elements of the game, a story about the revenge of those who see you have torn a series of villains a forgotten note and allies that can be used. Worse, most of the plot was revealed through the reconciliation. In order to provide writers with some credit, they seem to be hindered by the fact that this is a part of the story (of the type) for Dungeon Fighter Online, a free game of the same developer. But I cannot imagine the passionate fans of that will find myself investing.

The story missions are simple enough. Fight through some enemies and people who speak small, light some campfire and unlock the shortcuts on the way, then beat Snot out of the boss at the end. Unfortunately, that journey was another shortcoming of Khazan – everything was bad until the boss’s matches felt like a form. They try to mix it by introducing puzzles, but mostly you only go from point A to point B and kill everything on the way.

There is a feeling similar to the enemy worse as you continue. Fighting with a group of lizards for the first time is joy, but at the time they are characterized by the main villains of a fourth main mission, I am really bored with them. These are not only the types of enemies are tired, the way they are arranged throughout the levels makes the whole incident feel tedious. I lost the number of times the game threw a bulky boss at me, placed a series of archers behind it, and called it a day.

Even if you try to squeeze a little more from the extra missions, these are almost only recycled from the main story. Some maps are reused in interesting ways, by adding puzzles or opening new routes that were previously unable to access. But, again, very few among these tasks more unique enemies, and each person I play has only one version told by a main story owner at the end. One task on one side tried to justify this by confirming the boss was the twin brother of the guy who finally fought. You are not tied, Khazan – I know you just need to put a helmet into the last boss model and throw your hand.

But while the owners may reappear more than you want, they have compensated for it in an important way: they are absolute threats. On the top of the irregular shots, there are chains combining ten attacks, attacks are indicated by audio signals, attacks on building negative state effects even when you block them, the area of ​​the area is almost filling the entire arena. Khazan’s iCicle Yetis and heavy demons throw everything at you. Hardcore fans of this genre may think that I am burying Lede here, but this can really be one of the most difficult Soulslikes I played, only by bosses.

In the end, however, they were fair. Khazan balance its positive meaning by providing you with a large sap. It is thought that only three weapons – double ability, great people and spears – compared to Elden Ring seems to be a huge limit. But this is similar to Nioh’s ideas. Each type of weapon has its own skill plants, unlocking unique unique attacks, motion options and buffs. All three weapons feel different, and thanks to the stable progress of the skilled tree, I never felt burning when simply clinging to the dual ability for most of my play.

The intelligence comes in the way you use these blades. There are four different ways that you can fight against enemies: you can avoid, you can protect, you can Parry and you can use counterattack skills to deviate from the instructions of the attacks that cannot be blocked. But by determining the time to avoid or protect it perfectly, you can use the variants of their Brink Brink. These will help you regenerate endurance or reflect the damage back to your enemy.

This leads to the big battles that are satisfied in the way without any other battle of the boss who feels to me since Sekiro. There is great satisfaction in perfectly reflecting Beast’s 30 -second combo. Or find a hulking monster and shave out of its incredible half. No strategy or exploitation is found, you just need to lock and play a perfect game each time. It was ominous, but there was a feeling that could not be compared when having to overcome a perfect and deadly dance revolution game.

As a person who loves this genre, I can forgive many Khazan’s defects because of this fierce. But I could not deny that the game had many weaknesses besides those battles to throw the ball. If it’s a brief adventure (a full game will make you return about 80 hours), many of the issues I have mentioned does not seem like such a big problem. Instead, it made me feel conflict. I was caught in the middle of its coal campaign (and often tested again), while actually honoring its intensive and satisfied fighting. There are a number of treasures fighting with the bruising boss buried in Khazan for any fans like any difficult soul, which is just a shame that you have to dig the mounds that are not interesting levels and the score of the Samey enemy to approach them.
