Bah, never happily wrote one of these things, but unfortunately, Myst’s developer and Riven Cyan Worlds have fired 12 of his employees this week, believed to have cut about half of the studio. Cyan shared news on their social media accounts yesterday, note that “industry conditions” have “forced” the studio to consider “our future health health against the reality of developing the monthly game by 2025.”
The post also stated that the leadership contacted the entire group of “Waters Waters”, and the dismissal was not a surprise for the team, so it seemed that this was a long time coming. At least those affected people will receive a job, but I imagine it is not comfortable enough to comfort. It is also worth noting that the current priority of the studio is “Safe finance for our next project.”
Cyan’s friends and family, we have some difficult news to share today. (Detailed information in the topic below.)

Cyan is a long developer, established nearly 40 years ago. They are clearly known as the studio behind Myst and Riven, focusing on making both games in recent years. Later, just released last year, and widely received, so you have to wonder what happened. Many Indie studios are struggling to find funding at this time, but not always as simple as something we know. For what it is valuable, Cyan has also provided a list of employees affected by firing to help them get new jobs.
I really hope that Cyan manages to overcome, and all the fired employees can land on their feet. To be honest, I can’t think of a different developer with half of its history, not to mention its 37 -year. Fingers overcome for all people involved.
